Frequently asked questions

How do Keycamp check and maintain their gas appliances?

All our mobile homes have their gas, electricity and other health and safety areas checked annually. These checks are recorded and kept on file for future reference. Our Repair and Maintenance staff are fully trained to carry out these tests and certify our units as safe for use.

There are no specific UK standards covering gas and electricity testing that we must adhere to. The gas certificate we use is based on the Landlords Gas Certificate as used for rented properties in the UK and we commission an Electrical Consultant to advise what level of testing we carry out on the campsite and mobile home electrical system.

Do we need passports and visas to travel to Europe?

British and Eire passport holders do not require a visa for travel to any of our destinations. However, although some countries have abandoned routine passport checks at their land borders, visitors are still expected to be able to produce a valid standard 10-year passport, which must be valid until at least the end of your holiday. Please note that legislation introduced in 1998 requires all children not already included on a valid 10 year passport to hold their own passport to travel abroad. You should always keep a separate record of the number, date and place of issue of your passport in case of loss.

What do we need to do to take the car abroad?

Firstly, whilst your car insurance fully covers you for third party risks, it is advisable to have fully comprehensive car insurance. By obtaining a Green Card from your insurance company, your comprehensive policy may be extended to cover the continent.
Secondly we strongly recommend you take out Europe Assistance's Car Breakdown insurance, which can be done at time of booking. This covers expenses you may incur as a result of a breakdown or accident and is backed up by a 24-hour emergency claims service.
Also remember that you will need by law to carry a warning triangle and a spare set of bulbs, to display the GB sticker supplied in your Keycamp travel pack and also have dipped headlights. It is worth getting the car serviced about 2 weeks before you holiday.

Is insurance required?

It is essential that you have a personal insurance policy covering every member of the family for medical costs, theft and losses whilst you are travelling abroad. Ensure you carry the policy schedule and proof of payment with you at all times on holiday as proof of your cover. Should you not wish to take personal insurance through Keycamp we will require details of your alternative insurance cover.

What documentation do Keycamp provide before departure?

Not only do we give each child their own travel pack, we also provide a comprehensive travel pack tailored to your holiday itinerary. In addition to your travel vouchers, there's a Holiday Guide listing practical information about driving overseas, what to take with you, Keycamp on-site services and essential vocabulary. For each campsite we provide detailed directions and a guide to local attractions. We also include a large scale local map and a GB sticker. Travel packs are normally dispatched about 3 weeks before your departure. Unfortunately, travel packs cannot be distributed if the holiday is booked within 14 days of departure.
